FPA Monthly Meeting

New Planner Recruiting: Their Success is Your Success

Caleb Brown

July 18, 2012
11:30 am Lunch
12:00 pm Meeting

MAC Club

Understanding Gen ‘Why’

Undoubtedly you have, at some point, been exposed to someone from Generation Y (born 1978-2000). It could be in the form of a colleague, an employee, restaurant server or even one of your kids. ☺ Gen Y, sometimes referred to as Millienals, Gen Text, and Gen Why have a unique set of characteristics.

These characteristics often leave others from other generations, mainly baby boomers, scratching their heads. Since most financial planning firms tend to be owned by baby boomers, and most new financial planners tend to be Gen Y’rs some intergenerational coaching may be helpful.

Caleb Brown will discuss and clarify some of Gen Y's tendencies. His insight and advice will help you understand these characteristics in a way that will result in success for them and you!

Topics will include:

Asking ‘why’ they have to perform a certain task

Insistence on leaving at 5 o’clock or flex scheduling

Preference for electronic vs face to face communication

Not willing to take constructive criticism

Caleb is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant, Kolbe CertifiedTM Consultant, and original creator of the FPA Career Day program, which began with the Dallas/ Ft. He has been featured in Investment News, NAPFA Advisor, Financial Planning, Financial Advisor, Virtual Office News, FPA Solutions, and the Journal of Financial Planning regarding his efforts to create a career path for up and coming planners.

Caleb is a member of the FPA New Professionals Advisory Council and the President of NexGen, an FPA community for new financial planners. He was named by his peers as one of the Best Financial Planners in Dallas as well as received the DFW/FPA Chairman’s Award in 2008. He is a graduate of the Texas Tech Personal Financial Planning Program and spent over five years in an RIA firm in North Texas helping a sole practitioner transition the firm to an ensemble model. Caleb is also a founding member of Virtual Solutions for Advisors, a resource of industry providers that helps financial advisors grow their businesses through outsourcing.
