Navigating Retirement Transitions: Beyond the Numbers Presented by Kirsten Meneghello, JD, PCC, CPRC
The decision to retire from work is often based on two numbers: our age and how much we have saved. However, the transition to retirement is a huge life transition that many of us are not equipped for. It can be fraught with many issues such as loss of identity, reduced social interactions, changes in family relationships, lack of routine and structure, and finding a new sense of meaning and purpose. These issues may loom large in your clients’ minds, but they may not be discussed. Or perhaps they are unaware of all the changes that the transition to retirement entails. Your support as a trusted advisor is crucial to helping your clients navigate this major life transition successfully.
Learning Objectives:
- The scope of non-financial issues that arise during this transition to retirement (emotional, mental, social, spiritual).
- Questions that you can ask your clients to better understand their needs.
- A specific tool that your clients can use to gauge their level of satisfaction with various aspects of their life.
